Sardines, which continue their lives in flocks, were called "fire fish" in the past. The reason is the appearance that the sardine gives to the water. These fish, which have blue spots on the green body, can be up to 25 cm in length. Sardines are the most consumed fish in our country after anchovy. The reasonable size of the sardine allows us to cook it easily and is loaded with flavor.
Sardines, which can live in almost all our seas, are mostly found in the Aegean and Marmara Seas. Because they live in a herd, it is easier for them to hunt. The best month for sardine fishing is June. Sardines, which make their way to Istanbul from the Dardanelles in the summer season, are one of the most important seafood products of hot weather.
For the most part, hunting continues between June and October. We can say that sardines with smaller sizes are more delicious. Even the smallest sardines do not need deboning. Therefore, sardines are a very popular fish, especially by children.
