The body of the sea bass, which belongs to the Moronidae family, is in shades ranging from bluish gray to greenish gray. Young individuals have black spots on the body. These spots are not found in adults. The nose is longer than the distance between the eyes. The upper edge of the gill cover is dark and has spines. The mouth is large and the lips are thin. All fins are in shades of gray. Sometimes it can be observed in bluish colors.
Their size varies between 40-100 cm. Generally, their weight is 8-10 kg. It has been observed that it can reach up to 15 kg. Its meat is lean and very tasty. It is eaten fresh. It is found in the Black Sea, Marmara and Mediterranean Seas off the coast of Turkey. It is hunted in all seasons, usually from mid-May to the end of November. They gather in flocks when they start to breed in river mouths during the autumn months. They breed in the creek mouths in the Black Sea during the winter months and in the Mediterranean between April and May.
It is widely grown in the open seas of the Black Sea, Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, from egg to market. Most of the products are exported especially to EU countries.
